- Động từ tường thuật “asked” chia thì quá khứ nên lời nói trong ngoặc kép phải áp dụng quy tắc lùi thì:

today => that day

S + is/am/are + going to + V => S + was/were + going + to + V

- Dùng "if/ whether" khi chuyển sang câu tường thuật với dạng câu hỏi "Yes-No question"

=> I asked her if it was going to be a fine day that day.

Tạm dịch: Tôi đã hỏi cô ấy xem liệu hôm nay có phải là một ngày đẹp trời hay không.
